Help! Big blister on heel of foot.

I walked very quickly to collect dd from school this afternoon and I was wearing my heeled boots. After about half a mile my foot started hurting. I stopped to check and could see a blister starting. Then I had to continue to the school and back home so now I have a very sore blister on my heel. It's about 3cm long and is a half moon curve. Does anyone have any suggestions on reducing the pain from it and helping it to heal (no pun intended!) quickly, please? It is best to avoid pricking the blister, isn't it? Any advice welcomed.

put a plaster on it if wearing shoes, if possible wear flip flops for a few days.

Thanks, misdee. I'll have a look for a nice padded plaster. I'll give myself a pedicure tonight so that I can wear my sandals to work tomorrow. Thanks again.

I had HUGE blisters on my heels last year from walking and I avoided poopping them because I thought it would make them worse but in the end the pain was so bad i popped them and it was heaven!! Because the pressure was gone the pain went and they healed a lot faster

I agree with swiper, you shouldnt really pop then because it can allow in infection but if you pop it and cover it with a dressing/plaster it should be ok and yes popping them does take the pain away.

Talk about putting temptation in front of me! Thanks for your replies, anyway.

To pop or not to pop. Hmmm.

Pro popping:- Takes the pain away. As long as you keep the area clean with a plaster it will heal okay.

Con:- You shouldn't do it really. Also, if I don't pop it then I'll have to hobble and maybe I'll get some sympathy in work. I wonder if it's my turn to make the tea tomorrow.

I don't think I can wear sandals tomorrow as the weather forcast is for rain - lots of - and I don't have any low heeled boots. Maybe I can wear my trainer type things. I'll have to try to find something that I can wear with them. This'll be interesting!

Help again! Warning possibly way TMI following:-

I decided to pop it earlier. I didn't realise it was HUGE! Was I supposed to just pop it and leave the skin on? If so, I didn't. It's about the size of three 10p pieces. Almost the whole heel. I'll have to put a wound dressing thing on with tape holding it, won't I? Thank goodness for MN tonight. I've sat here, MNing away cos I can't do anything else. MN helps me to sit still and I forget about the pain. I am a twit, aren't I?

You should have left the skin!!!!!!!!!!!!You have opened it right up to infection you maddy!!Though i must say i do the same and im a nurse so should know better. You must keep it covered with some sort of dressing now at least until the new skin forms underneath to seal the wound and wait till you bathe it ouch !!!!!
