Jaundice at Birth and time it remains

Hi All
new member requiring a bit of advice please. My new daughter was born 18 days ago. She had Jaundice at bith and was kept in for 5 days. Bloods done and antibiotics given but nothing seemed to be causing the jaundice.
Since leaving hospital she has got a lot better and looks ligher although a bit of jaundice remains mainly in the face. Midwife today said come back next week and if Jaundice has not gone then it might be worth popping back to the hospital. I have read somewhere that Jaundice can take many weeks to clear the babys system? She's feeding well and wee/poo is fine
Anyone with experience that can share and make me feel a little easier I would really appreciate it.
thanks

My DS was the same. He had blood tests as well because even his eye whites were slightly yelowish. It lasted for about one month or 6 weeks. He slept in the sunny room during the day to get as much of the sun as possible. He also had formula milk which is recommended for the babies with jaundice. I think there should be an UV lamp on the market for this purpose. Hope she gets better soon. Keep in touch with your GP.

Sorry OP, not totally sure, but I think jaundice can hang around for a while, especially if you're breasfteeding. e.g, it can be completely normal:

Here is an article on jaundice from a reputable source:

Octavia, sorry, but I think you were given incorrect advice about formula - it is not necessary to give formula as routine in cases of jaundice. Breastmilk is fine, unless there are concerns about the amount being produced/ ingested, in which case you may be able to quickly address supply/ feeding issues.

my dd had jaundice for about 6 weeks; the hv was pretty unhelpful but the hospital were great and just said it might take a bit longer if I was bf. it did go eventually, although she was checked over regularly.
oh, and congratulations on your new DD Smile
