I've had a weeks sick note as I have had a 'soft tissue injury' to the underneath of my foot - basically I seem to have pulled some kind of muscle under my foot, near the heel. A week on, its still aching, though I have rested it quite a lot. If I go back to work I will be on my feet all day. But I feel so guilty being off work - I work in a school and know they will be short staffed. Should I put up with the pain and just get back to it? My DH says to rest it out til its better but I am scared this may take ages. Hate being in this position. WWYD?

Are you sure you haven't got plantar fasciitis? Who has assessed your foot? I would get yourself to a podiatrist asap. In the meantime roll a frozen plastic bottle of water under your foot regularly throughout the day for 10 minutes.

Hi puzzlepetal, how would I know if it is that?My GP examined my foot to check it wasn't anything broken, said an xray would be no use on soft tissue. Have been putting a cold pack on it, but it feels a bit muscular as a gentle massage relieves it a bit.

Thanks puzzlepetal, I have just put some slightly heeled shoes on for inside the house and it feels a bit better already! I usually have bare feet whenever I can, it seems quite embarrassing that something so simple as wearing footware makes such a difference. May have to google heeled slippers now! (I hate slippers!) Still makes me wonder whether to go back to work on Monday and keep on going, or to rest a bit longer. Thanks so much for your help.I guess you are an expert or a fellow sufferer?

I would not go back too soon. I tried to work through mine and it got so much worse, I was eventually off for months. I would definitely want to confirm the diagnosis though and podiatrists are fantastic in this regard. I agree with your GP that an X-ray won't show a soft tissue injury but MRI or diagnostic ultrasound will.

OOh thankyou, it really helps to be talked through this, have made a podiatry appointment (I go anyway due to my diabetes) but its not til Monday 4th Oct. Will think about your advice re work....will see how the weekend goes. Its shite having time off work, feel so bad about it.
Thank you puzzlepetal! Smile
