Pulled neck/shoulder muscle... worth a trip to the GP?

Last night my neck was stiff and achy. I'd had a headache all day so just put it down to that.

This morning I woke up and my neck and shoulder were really stiff and its been playing me up all day. Been dosing up on painkillers and using wheat bag on it, but at times my arm was aching down to my hand. It almost feels like someone is gently pushing my head forward on one side.

So my question is if its no better tomorrow should I try to see my GP? I don't really want to bother them if its not worth it but at the same time if there is something they can do to ease the pain that would be great.

I don't remember doing anything specific to hurt it but think I cricked my neck when I woke up yesterday morning.

I had similar symptoms a few years ago. I had difficulty turning my neck - I can remember not being able to reverse. I left it 3 weeks before I went to the GP and he politely told me off for leaving it so long. It turned out I had a prolapsed disc in my neck and I needed physio.

I'd give it a couple more days and if it is not getting any better, make an appointment.

I often thought I'd done the same thing, it turns out I have spondylosis which flares up from time to time. I haven't been to a doctor with it for ages, the last time was when we were living in Bangkok and the doctor gave me some anti inflammatories and Valium to relax the muscles.
