DD1 who is 8 keeps getting mouth ulcers, I don't know why (what causes them anyway - anyone know?). So what is the best thing to treat them with. Its not something I've suffered with for longer than I can remember so not sure whats the best? Any advice gratefully received - she's non too impressed about starting back at school tomorrow never mind starting back WITH mouth ulcers .

Dont know. Would love some advice with that one myself (they disappear when im pregnant though mysteriously). I use dentinox on mine - ive found it works best and lasts longer for pain relief and discomfort.

I get them and so does my DD so my sympathy. My doc just shrugs when I mention them so I guess there's not much they can do - are they viral? I use Adcortyl in Orabase which isn't a miracal cure by any means but it lets you eat a meal without pain. Not sure about the age limit on that.

Salt water mouthwash helps too.

miracal? miracle even...

I and DD ( aged 10 ) both suffer(ed) fom mouth ulcers ... I was verging on 2 a week ...
It got so bad that I went to an ulcer clinic and was told that Diet drink ( esp Diet Coke ) was a real killer. Once I gave it up - I was a different person ... ditto for DD. Don't know whether or not this helps.

Otherwise, there is a product that you can buy over the counter at any pharmacy called adcortylinorabase !
It's better than the regular stuff like bonjella as it seems to stick a bit better to the ulcer.

MIL told me to eat fresh pineapple, and to sit with a bit of the fruit on the ulcer for a bit. I swear it really does work. For once I have to say she was right

paolosgirl · 06/09/2005 13:24

Baaad grammar there, sorry

Another vote for Adcortyl in Orabase here! It starts the healing process as well as reducing pain. Do be cautious when using pineapple - it actually gives my mum mouth ulcers, something to do with dissolving the mucous membranes, hence the useage in inducing labour.

Great thanks everyone. DD doesn't drink anything fizzy so not that. She does like pineapple but not sure if I should risk it - heaven help me if it gives her more!! I will try the adcortyl if everyone's sure its ok for children?? Do I just ask at the chemist?
