Rose Thorn stabbed my arm, should I be worried?

Cutting back a rose bush today and one of the thorns caught my arm, started to bleed, quickly washed and used antiseptic, not sure if any of the thorn is stuck in there. Spoke to A & E nurse said I did all the right things, but am bit worried about any infections it might cause, anyone else had this happen?

I thought Rose Thorn was a person for a moment.

Am sure it will be fine.

Meglet · 18/09/2010 22:41

I doubt it would do much harm. If it gets painful or red it might mean there's something stuck in there.

Doesn't magnesium paste draw stuff out?

I wouldn't have given a rose thorn a second thought. Do they carry infection?

FlorenceDaphne · 18/09/2010 22:44

You phoned A and E because a thorn caught your arm?

bruxeur · 18/09/2010 22:47

Christ, don't. That will have been one of the more sane advice calls they had that night.

bruxeur & FlorenceDaphne, I read on the net that you can get Rose Thorn Disease which apparently is very serious, maybe I over-reacted ringing A & E just needed reassuring by a medic.

Perhaps I overestimated.

You'll be fine. If it becomes infected, (red, hot, puss, pain, swelling,) get it checked as with anything.

I walked in to a rose bush about 3 years ago and have had a thorn embedded in my arm ever since. Have tried to remove it unsucessfully. It's never caused me any problems, so have let it be. Mind you I hadn't heard about this rose thorn disease...

There was a thread about this a while ago and someone did have a neighbour who'd got a very serious illness from this - though theirs was a really deep wound I think.

Just keep an eye on it and get it checked if it swells, gets inflamed etc.

Brightside you're like some kind of hybrid rose cyborg thing!
