Do White pusy tonsils always mean tonsilitis?

Both Dcs have had a virus this week, a run of the mill temp/swollen glands/sore throat. I thought I had gone down with it yesterday. Came on very suddenly, high temp, very sore throat, aching all over and can't swallow. Have been dosing myself up with flu meds cause I am at in laws and feel terrible.

Just looked at my throat and my tonsils seem covered in pusy patches. Could this be virul or isbit tonsilitis and do I need antibiotics?

Sounds like tonsilitis to me - poor you. I believe it does go away on it's own in the end (had it when I was pregnant and the doctor was reluctant to prescribe antibiotics), but it is quicker with antibiotics, and worth it in my opinion!

Hope you feel better soon.

Yes, because tonsilitis, in strict medical parlance just means inflammation of the tonsils. Whether the cause is bacterial or viral remains to be seen. Chances are that it is bacterial, as most tonsil infections are.

Go to boots or Tesco pharm tomoro and ask for Dequadin - best throat anaesthetic lozenges I've ever used.

Thank you everyone. I used to get it lots when I was younger. Not had it for ages but god I do feel rubbish. Typical. Have been busy and stressed at work and have a day off on Monday, was looking forward to a nice day with DH. Sad
