broken my nose! and cracked my head and eye and broken my bathroom sink...

...and I have to go BACK to A&E, as the junior Dr got in such a tizz about my head injury he forgot to refer me to the ENT clinic.

I was on the floor of the bathroom picking up some toys with my children either side of me and i lifted my head up, and found the solid glass shower screen was over the top of my head. I found this out with my head and smashed my head onto it at such a force the whole screen came crashing down, into the sink right in front of me which broke into several large pieces, one of which presumably then flew and hit my in the face. I do not recall that bit clearly as I saw the glass falling and was starting agast at this glass about to fall onto my daughter. When i saw she was not hit but the sink was, i then realised as it had hit my head (did not realise it was that hard) i realised my son was on the other side of me so immediately went to him. luckily not a scratch.

DH came charging in, we got the kids out and while this was happening I could feel a trickle down my head and my nose start throbbing and I started shaking! I had split my eye and my nose was out on one side!! Shock

Checked the kids over thoroughly, DD had a little cut on her toe, that was all, and DS was fine, we settled them, put them to bed, then my friend dorve me to A&E where they messed around for quite a while as I had clear fluid come out of my nose, dark eyes and raised blood pressure so they ummed and arred about scanning me, eventually let me go hom at almost midnight.

Do you think I will ok to drive back up there? i feel ok, well, i now have spotted a deep gauge on my back where the shower panel fell forwards, and also down, so the base slid down my back, but that is fine, my head hurts but only where it has been bashed hard in two places and my nose hurts but only as it was smacked so hard.

But, bloody hell. I was only clearing the floor in order to make it safe so the kids did not slip on it when they went in the bath. DS was going in a bucket bath on the floor right where i was sat Shock. It is almost like this happened to stop something worse happening, does that make sense or am I more concussed than I thought, it could have gone so horribly horribly worse than that, the bit that hit me, was so so close to DS, it could have killed him, he is only a baby.

Should I go into work? or straight to A&E as they said I have to go back in for the referral. won't need to send them photos, i will be there tomorrow, when the bruising will be out in full Grin.

DH said that when he dropped DD off at school, she promptly started telling one of her new school friend's mum all about how mummy hit her head and she cut her toe and mummy had to go to see a dr and the bathroom is all broken Grin DH had to explain the whole story to fill in the gaps ! So, now, in a tiny school and a reception class of 30 at most, i should think most of the parents will be spying my black eyes at the gates this afternoon Grin

you see this is why i NEVER do housework! it's bloody dangerous!

pavlov, you need to hire a cleaner asap!

hope you're all better soon, sounds horrendous. and i hope you have someone to look after you??

cornsilk909 · 13/09/2010 10:31

God you poor thing that sounds awful.

DaftApeth · 13/09/2010 10:37

Ha ha, yes, your clients will find you interesting Grin

The mums at school may all be giving your dh strange looks now.

Do you have any Jackie O sunglasses? Maybe your nose wil too painful though.

FranSanDisco · 13/09/2010 10:37

Blimey, you are a brave one and I'm glad you are ok but you need time off work as you've had a horrible experience. DH's friend has a house brick fall on him whilst wearing a hard hat and he took a week off work to recover even though he didn' suffer half of what you have Hmm.

mamaloco · 13/09/2010 14:19

yeah! I had a lot of that!
good luck, I hope it is getting better and you won't need any fixing (you not the bathroom)

I could wear my sunglasses has they sit high on the bridge of the nose but not my sight glasses (as they actually broke my nose). I guess it depends where you were hit.

PavlovtheCat · 13/09/2010 18:10

i can't wear my glasses. Well, i can, but it hurts as the bone is bumpy on one side right where the glasses sit, but they also hide the bruising really well as they are dark framed with thick dark sides. The bruising is coming up now on one side, one eye, where it was also cut, but the nose is not too swollen. Just hurts a lot when i bend, also my jaw/cheekbone hurts, pressure behind the face, i guess where it got hit with some force.

Have been to A&E, they saw me quite quickly as already been in and have been/will be referred to ENT now.

I have had the most stressful of days though. I had a Doc appt about something else already booked and that was a waste of bloody time too. For example, i broke a toe/metatarsal a few months ago, and nothing can be done about it now as its too late, grin and bear it was the jist. Fucking hell, i am falling apart.

And I am quite ratty.

Bloody hell pav. You are one tough lady! Wrecking the entire bathroom with your head! And defending the littlies while you're at it. Wow.

Seriously hope you're ok. Is the ENT referral to sort out the broken nose properly then? (Duh, sorry, luckily someone with little experience of such traumas...)

PavlovtheCat · 13/09/2010 19:27

ms yes, ENT (ear nose throat) clinic, A&E can't fix it as can't do anything until swelling has gone down, not that it is too swollen. I am not sure if anything need/can be done with it, but will see.

PavlovtheCat · 13/09/2010 20:02

how long will this bloody headache go on for? Sad and ds is not asleep and not looking sleepy so i can't even crash myself i need wine. that'll sort it.

Bumperlicious · 13/09/2010 22:31

Can you take some industrial strength pain killers and sleep in tomorrow? You need a bit of time to recover.

mamaloco · 14/09/2010 06:30

hope you had an OK night, sleeping with my head elevated helped with the pain for some reason lying down was more painful...
Didn't they give you something for the pain at the ENT or A&E?
Sending good vibes Smile

PavlovtheCat · 14/09/2010 09:20

I am breastfeeding, so paracetamol is what they gave me! They said I can take ibruprofen, but have not had any in the house so only been taking paracetamol here too, but DH has got me some now.

Feel a bit better, although slept badly on account of DS not sleeping! Took today off to fully recover before my group tomorrow, cannot miss that one.

The black eye is a shiner now though, looks more swollen today than it did yesterday!

WhatsWrongWithYou · 14/09/2010 09:34

You poor, poor thing!

This has really made me think - we have one of those screens over our bath and it once spontaneously came away and fell on the floor, while the DCs were getting dried. (It missed them, luckily).

I'd popped out of the room so didn't see, but they both said they hadn't touched it.

Can't believe we actually went out and bought a new one, and it's still over the bath, like a ticking time bomb!

Casserole · 14/09/2010 10:18

Oh Pavlov, it sounds dreadful. If you can bear it, some cold compresses will help take the swelling down, which will in turn ease the pain and speed up healing.

Glad you weren't any more badly hurt, and really glad your little ones were ok.

BudaisintheZONE · 14/09/2010 10:28

Crikey Pavlov. How scary. You poor thing.

Shower screen wasn't put up by horrible builder man was it?

Thank God it didn't hit the children. It doesn't bear thinking about.

PavlovtheCat · 14/09/2010 11:18

lol buda no, it was already there, or else I might have sued him for damages, shame! Although it was taken down when we had new bath fitted and re-put back up, but the bloke just put the same shit bracket back. I can't really blame him though. It was completely our fault, we kept thinking we needed to get rid.

Feeling much better, but the house feels a bit like a death trap, just little things that now seem really dangerous, sort of feel a bit like something is going to happen and that is really daft, but DH and are safety proofing the house like paranoid people! It needs doing badly, so at least it is going to be organised and tidy by the end of the day maybe Grin

PavlovtheCat · 14/09/2010 16:16

omg, my little bear cub just headbutted me in the eye, right on the socket where the cut it, right slap bang on the very very bruised bone. fucking hell ouch that hurt. It is now swollen more than it was before Shock and I would say, probably hurt more too.

OP posts:
BudaisintheZONE · 14/09/2010 17:20

Ow Ow ow! you are not having a good few days are you??

PavlovtheCat · 14/09/2010 20:38

buda I am waiting for this week to end. You know when there is like a 'vibe'? where you know things are just going to happen, like DH putting the highchair on the table so he can wash the floor? and it of course was going to fall off spectacularly, or, pulling the cot into DSs bedroom from ours, not undoing it, of course it was going to break, stubbing toes, bin bags breaking, that kind of thing...its like its a full moon, but it's not!

And not helped my the fact I am really rather bloody grumpy!

I put a bag of ice on the eye and its not too bad, the nose is looking ok actually, blue across the bridge, mostly on one side but not very swollen. Think I might be lucky with that, as there is a lump but its not particularly crooked, maybe chipped it? [hopeful emoticon]

OP posts:
BudaisintheZONE · 14/09/2010 21:03

Fingers crossed it wontbe too bad and your run of crap has passed.

PavlovtheCat · 14/09/2010 21:26

buda Grin it comes in waves though doesn't it? I went to see the gp yesterday about an unrelated matter and she said to me 'you seem a a bit out of sorts, not like you to complain about things, would you fill out this questionnaire, i am wondering if you might be a bit depressed?' [sock] wtf! I was having a particularly bad day after having spent ages in A&E again, my glasses broke while in front of her and I swore (not badly, shit or something like that). I am not depressed woman, i have been battered by my bathroom!!! I have a broken nose and a black eye and a bit of a headache!!!

OP posts:
BudaisintheZONE · 15/09/2010 08:53

LOL! Sorry! But even your Shock turned into a sock!!!

I fell and split my head open 6 years ago - ended up with 5 stitches. Was carrying DS at the time. I was def in shock for a couple of days and very down and weepy for a few weeks after really. So you may well be a bit down but you know why. Def time to look after yourself though.

And PMSL at "i have been battered by my bathroom"!

ButterpieBride · 16/09/2010 23:45
