Help! I'm alergic to my cats!

We have two 13 year old cats, who we've had since they were 8 weeks old. I had a cat as a child, from the age of 6- 18, and with no problem.

Four years ago I went into a house which was THICK with cat hair, the carpet was matted, the sofa was matted, and I had to spend several hours there. While I was there, my eyes started itching, and my nose started running, and ever since I've had a bit of a problem.

This summer it was really bad, I think as I was at home a lot during the school holiday.Since I went back to work in September, I was much better.

However, this evening I'm sitting here, nose streaming, with sore eyes again. I've been sitting on the sofa where the cat was sitting.

Getting rid of the cats is not an option.

What can I do to minimise this? I don't really want to take anti-histamine until they both die!

Just read through my post. It reads as if English isn't my first language. Sorry. Blush

I suppose give the house a really good clean top to bottom and maybe put a blanket on the sofa for the cat to lie on which you can wash.

There is a lotion which you can wipe a cat down with once a week - can't remember the name, but it should be easy enough to find which is supposed to reduce the allergies.

Have to say though that we had to get rid of our cat as I started wheezing and it was seriously affecting my health.

Hope you're okay.
