My kids have got fleas

We have just moved to a new house with a resident cat who sits on the doormat. Although we have not allowed it into the house, my kids have petted it from time to time. And we now have fleas ! And I am laying the blame totally on the moggy. I know that it's fleas as I have seen a couple and we all have the bites. It's really embarassing. I have read that I need to hoover and wash the linen constantly. But what I want to know is - is there anything I can use on us ? There are plenty of products that can be used on cats and dogs, like spot-on and powders, but there doesn't seem to be anything for children ! Or is there ? All advice gratefully received ! Thanks.

No nothing to use on yourself, your kids dont 'have' fleas, but your home will be infested. You can buy house flea spray and it really is a case of hoover hoover hoover and spray all carpets soft furnishing etc with the spray you can buy from any supermarket or the vet. HTH.

This happened to us when we moved house - previous owners had cats and a dog. Took us a while to work out what was causing all the bites until a flea jumped onto DS as I was changing his nappy on the floor......

We tried sprays and things that we bought from the local vet, but (sorry) nothing worked and eventually we had to pay for the council to come and spray the entire house. - Sounds awful, but at least then it was completely sorted.

Good luck.
