Food poisoning or something else? Me and Dh have it with slightly different symptoms

Me and dh both started feeling really sick around the same time last night. Dh then started with extreme sickness and diahorrea. I just felt sick till around 4am when i was sick once.

Today we are both terrible but in differnt ways. Dh is still being sick and having diahorrhea where as i feel sick but not being sick, but also have a pounding headache, high temp, bad pains in calfs and hot then cold and dizzy.

Could this be food poisoning if i havent got the severe sickness and diahorrhea but other symptoms? How long does it last for if it is poisoning, and what should we be doing apart from drinking water. I really hope its not a bug and the kids get it cos its awful

I have had the same as your husband since 9pm last night and I'm sure mine is food poisoning because DCs and DH have no symtoms.

From the little I know, I think food poisoning can effect different people differently so it could be that in your case.

Sorry, that's not much help. NHS direct or the doctor would be better.

But I've found rehydration powder drinks very good - I think the banging headache you describe could be dehydration.

Also NHS direct told me to keep trying to drink and eat tiny amounts of plain food (like dry toast) between throwing up (!)

Hope you get well soon.

our family have just had a sickness bug

ds2 was sick on and off for a day, fine for a day, then very poorly with a high temperature and more vomiting

dp had diarrhoea for about half a day then felt better

i had d + v and felt chronic for a day

ds1 was sick on and off for 2 days

i don't think it affects people in the same way, is what i am saying

Sounds like Norwalk virus (this years new improved version of Norovirus) which often includes headaches, temperature and aches and pains / joint ache.

I had it a few months ago. The only upside was I lost half a stone (ill for three days).

Hope you both feel better soon!

mummytobe ...have you been abroad recently or is it from this country?

mummytopebs · 01/09/2010 19:53

No not been abroad alypaly. We both slept for 14 hours lasty night and feel slightly better today, just hope it stays that way. And if it was a bug i am hoping the kids dont get it
