6 y-o in hospital - any thoughts?

My little brother (6)is in hosiptal with a bacterial virus (not meningitis) after he had been vomiting for nearly 24 hours. He is apparently getting very good care but I don't think they know exactly what is wrong with him. His poor mother (my stepmum) thought he had actualy died in the taxi on the way to the hospital as she was getting no reaction from him.

Anyone had similar experience or has any ideas?

We are due to visit them this week but am worried about DS (14 months). Should I be?

I would ask the hospital what they would advise about whether your DS can/should go. I would have thought, If it's bacterial he's presumably getting antiobitcs and unlikely to be contagious, though.

Yes I am sure you are right. They are starting antibiotics this afternoon. They were surprised how quickly and how much he dehydrated in 24 hours.

Hi there BB. When did he go in? Quite often test results are back in about three days, the staff may be able to advise you better then. If not, or if you were planning on going in before, the staff will be able to advise you over the phone whether or not it is a good idea to take DS in, depending on whether or not he is being barrier nursed etc. HTH.
