Medicine on an empty stomach?

DS2 has to take one spoon full of flucoxacillin (antibiotic) 4 times a day for 7 days "an hour before food or on an empty stomch".

I'm really struggling to make that happen. What is an empty stomach? How long after you've eaten does your stomach count as empty? If he has breakfast more or less as soon as he wakes (8:30 ish this week after some late nights last week) a snack mid morning, lunch c. 12:30 - 1 pm, mid afternoon fruit, tea c. 5:30pm, biscuit and milk, then bed c. 7:30, where are my 4 empty stomach opportunities?

Do I have to refuse him food? Does anyone know how much it matters? The doctor just said 4 times a day, didn't mention the empty stomach, but it is printed on the bottle. What would you do?

I would do 1h before food during the day which leaves the tricky breakfast time. he should get up and have the medecine and then wait an hour for breakfast. Can you manage to do that at all?
If not I would give the medecine in bed half awake and let him sleep more after (around 7)?

We've just finished a week on the same stuff with DD1. She didn't have it on an empty stomach because the only way I could persuade her to take it was by way of chocolate button bribery (she's 2.5) after each dose. It still worked though.

We gave the first morning dose on waking and then stretched breakfast as long as we could........she never lasted an hour though as she is used to having her brekkie within about 10 mins of getting up.

this basically means at least two hours after 1 hour before a meal. difficult with small children I know.

Thank you for your help. We're basically just doing our best. Sapphire, I too am having to follow a apoonful with a sweet. Must taste really bad, as DS2 is fairly used to taking meds Sad and his first spoon of this had him gagging.
