Irregular periods since childbirth

Since having my Son a year ago my periods continue to be irregular. I expected some irregularity due to Hormones but 1 year on nothing has improved. Its effecting my sex life as i never know when i am due on and obviously i don't want the embarrassment of coming on during sex. Also what happens is i get a period for about 5 days, then it stops but then a week later it comes back and then can last for two weeks. Before i had my boy my periods ran like clockwork. Has anyone else experienced this?. I have an appointment at the docs next so i'm hoping they can help, but in the mean time i'd like to hear anyone's experiences.

I've got really irregular periods now ds is 9mo. I've only had 2 since he was born, I was really regular before I got pg but atm I'm 3 weeks late. Are you breastfeeding? I am and think that may be whats causing it. I hope your gp is able to help you, its miserable isn't it when you're constantly thinking you're about to come on?

Been on the pill since DS was born so I can't help I'm afraid, bf would definately make them irregular though. I do get pretty bad period pains now that I never had before DS was born. I don't know whether or not that's normal?!
