My 5 yr old son has just been diagnosed with HSP. It started just over a week ago with the swelling of his feet, knees, elbows and now after all these have subsided, his hands and bruising on one of his testicles.
Yes, I have done my research on the internet, but would like to know if anyone has had any experience with this condition. I am a Brit living in Germany, and am feeling that I am not getting the whole picture here. Has anyone had first hand experience with their young child, please?

my son had it when he was 5. probably very mild as it just affected his legs - they were very spotty. We had to have his blood pressure checked weekly and i had to dip his urine daily as i believe it can affect the kidneys. he's been absolutely fine since. hope your son is ok.

Thanks Cupcake Lady. My son has had more swellings than spots, but tonight the new blotches appear to be bigger than before. (It started 10 days ago). We have to do daily urine checks for 2 weeks. Can you recall how long it went on for?

I had it when I was 21! I was covered in the red blood rash (like the meningitis rash) from waist to toe, it was awful. Used to disappear for a day or so then I'd waken up covered again. Add to this lots of blood/urine tests, horrible fatigue and a strep-C throat infection and I spent about three months feeling like a warmer shade of death. A hefty dose of antibiotics shifted the infections eventually, although even now (six years on) if I get badly run down my feet come out in the pinprick under the skin rash again.

After the inital swelling of my sons feet and the various other swellings he got his first big blotch of red skin yesterday, althou it has reduced in size an colour today. Urine checks are continuing as is doctors checks. Is it common for it to go on for a long time do you know?
