Should I buy a new one? It was normal coloured, then I boiled it. Now it is green. Why? Does it matter?

I'm pretty certain you don't have to boil it, which is why it may have turned green. Why did you boil it?????

sapphireblue · 11/08/2010 14:04

I guess you were trying to sterilise it? I'm not sure I'd stick it up there now tbh........you don't know what boiling water might have done to the composition of it etc etc

SkiHorseWonAWean · 11/08/2010 16:19

"done to the composition of it"? Wtf? Is it now liquid?

I used to boil mine in water with a sterilising tablet. Why on earth would this change its chemical composition? It's made of silicone which of course as every amateur chemist knows is an inert substance! Hmm

tyler80 · 11/08/2010 17:08

From the mooncup website

"If you want to sterilise your Mooncup between periods, you can either:
boil it immersed in water (in a pan put aside for this purpose) for 5-7 minutes"

bruffin · 11/08/2010 17:13

I boil mine (have two because I thought I lost one) and they haven't turned green. I thought you were supposed to steralise them inbetween.

MNTotoro · 11/08/2010 17:37

Had you been cooking peas beforehand? Grin

I would still use it. Mine is pretty old now and has gone a bit yellow. Think it probably needs replacing.

beansmum · 11/08/2010 22:41

I have boiled it lots of times before, I thought that was what you were supposed to do with it.

I don't have a special 'mooncup pan' so I might have cooked something weird in there before, probably not peas...maybe baked beans?

I emailed someone on the mooncup website and got a reply saying "green?!! does it smell?"...helpful.

(it doesn't smell btw)

put it in the dishwasher - see what that does to it.

CouldOfWouldOfShouldOf · 11/08/2010 22:50

Did you have cabbage in the same water?

beansmum · 11/08/2010 22:57

Can you put them in the dishwasher? Not that I have one.

i do mine in the dishwasher, but if you dont have one it doesn't help - not the sort of thing you can ask a friend to put in their dishwasher!
