Popcorn.................

WigWamBam · 25/08/2005 21:52

Glycerine suppositories, over the counter for about 90p. Work in about ten minutes, very impressively and dramatically, and are fine for pregnant ladies.

Pinotmum · 25/08/2005 21:52

Try prune juice.

colditz · 25/08/2005 21:53

Popcorn! really?

Works overnight................iykwim

Gobbledigook · 25/08/2005 21:53

I think you can take fybogel in pg can't you? You make it up like an orange drink. Mind you, dh bought it for me and I couldn't bring myself to use it. A cup of coffee sometimes works!

Poor you, it's hideous isn't it?

colditz · 25/08/2005 21:53

So, WWB, you put it in and then sit on the toilet, right?

I'm going to be here on Saturday bemoaning my explosive diarrhoea after all this

colditz, you put it in, wait somewhere close to the toilet, and within about 10 minutes you know you've got to get up and get to the loo. Honestly, I couldn't go for over two weeks after I had dd, I was in absolute agony, and within 10 minutes the suppositories did their stuff. The GP can prescribe, but if you buy the BP version they don't cost much.

Ameriscot2005 · 25/08/2005 21:57

I don't really think there's much you can do. Your innards have gone on strike, basically. I found that you can do all the prune and kidney bean remedies, but all they do is make you feel dehydrated and still constipated.

Constipation is fab exercise for labour, and I found that it only lasted a couple of weeks (around week 14, IIRC). Get some decent reading material for the khazi and try not to worry about it.

You should, however, have as healthy a diet as you can manage, with normal amounts of fibre and fluids.

expatinscotland · 25/08/2005 21:58

Water! LOTS and lots of water.

expatinscotland · 25/08/2005 21:59

Ugggh! Exercise for labour? My f&*king pyloric valve needs some exercise - it's gone all loose and I have horrid acid reflux.

Ameriscot2005 · 25/08/2005 22:01

Progesterone doesn't care which muscle it wreaks havoc on.

In a macabre way, I always found it fascinating.

colditz · 25/08/2005 22:02

I have tried all fruity remedies, all they bhave done is earn me the nick name of "FartArse" at work

TMI coming up....

It's not like it is rock hard, I just can't seem to persuade it to come out...

expatinscotland · 25/08/2005 22:03

My titanium filled right knee is fascinated by its new-found flexibility.

Let's just hope my skin doesn't find it fascinating and develop stretchmarks.

Colditz, try a curry or something spicy. That might get things going. But don't try it if you have acid reflux.

Ameriscot2005 · 25/08/2005 22:03

Magazine on bog, Colditz. Give yourself a good 20 minutes

WigWamBam · 25/08/2005 22:04

I'm telling you ... glycerine suppositories. My GP recommended them to me, and it's the only good thing he ever did for me.

It's all very well knowing that this is normal and that it's going to go away - but you've got to get some relief from it before then.

expatinscotland · 25/08/2005 22:05

Have you tried an apple?

cutekids · 25/08/2005 22:06

Orange juice, maltesers and digestive biscuits all one after the other....!

colditz · 25/08/2005 22:06

I hate apples. how about apple juice?

Thanks guys. Only here could i get so many answers for constipation......

Hmm, don't know about juice, but apple juice is part of the BRAT diet for peeps who have the runs, so it may not get you moving again.

A HOT chicken madras might do it, though.

gingernut · 25/08/2005 22:08

Lactulose.

Re the TMI, I know exactly what you mean . First pg I was constipated almost from the moment I did the test. Didn't know about lactulose then. Second pg, this time with an anal fissure, I had to make sure I never got constipated, so I got lactulose on repeat prescription and it was the only thing that worked (I have also tried gallons of water, mountains of fruit and fybogel (now called Senokot BTW) but the problem was not lack of fibre in diet or dehydration, it was progesterone (I get a mini version of the same problem in the 2 weeks before my period every month too).
