When did your child start losing their baby teeth?

Ds is six and all his friends have started the whole wobbly tooth thing, and some have several "big" teeth.

He is so jealous, and feeling left behind. Surely he will lose teeth soon!?!

I'm sure he will....
Dd lost her first tooth about two weeks before she turned 6, she was desperate for it to happen (youngest in the class, so all her friends had lost teeth)!!!
Just to let you know though: 4 of my baby teeth don't have a 'replacement', so I still have 4 baby teeth!! And I'm 35.
Am a freak obviously....

My third child hung on till she was 7.5 years. Her front teeth were transparent before they finally gave way. My older two were between 6.5 and 7 years, but the bad mother that I am, I have no records.

spidermama · 25/08/2005 20:56

My dd lost her first just a few months ago at 6.5 but was upset at being the last in her class to lose one.

fuzzywuzzy · 25/08/2005 20:58

The HV told me that it depends on when they get their first teeth, both my dd's had a grand total of four teeth on their first birthday's, Dn on the other hand had almost an entire mouthful of teeth at the same age......Anyway according to HV, my two will lose their milk teeth later as they got them later iyswim.

Ah Frenchgirl my mother had one baby tooth left until she was about 50.

Frenchgirl · 25/08/2005 21:00

hehe
I knew I wasn't alone
someone else on MN still has a baby tooth or two (am talking grown ups here of course), but can't remember who... hub2dee maybe?

nooka · 25/08/2005 21:04

I also have two baby teeth - the dentist always said they would fall out when I was 30, but they are still there (still I'm only 34!).

My ds and dd both started losing teeth before they started school. Ds (now 6.5) has got four (might be six thinking about it) fully grown through big teeth and two gaps, and most of them fell out at least a year ago - they seem to go in phases, so maybe that proves fuzzywuzzy's HV's point, although I'm afraid I have forgotten when the teeth grew in . dd (5 in about three weeks) has lost her first three this summer.

Actually I was quite worried that ds started losing teeth early, but I have since been told that this happens anywhere between 5 and 7.

Wallace · 25/08/2005 21:38

I think ds was 8 months when he got his first tooth, so perhaps it's true. His baby teeth looked spaced out now!

I still have 1 baby tooth & I'm 37. It's been split in half by a filling which later fell out, but I still have it...
DS1 had his first 2 teeth at age 7.5months, and lost them in June/July this year (age 5.5yo). That seems too young to fit in with fuzzywuzzy's HV's theory...

FeelingOld · 25/08/2005 22:41

dd got first tooth at 9 months and was 7 1/2 before she lost her first tooth.
ds was 19 weeks when he got his first tooth and has just lost his first tooth at the grand age of 5.

Wallace · 25/08/2005 22:45

I hope he doesn't have to wait until 7.5!

ds1 still has all his baby teeth. He was 6 in June - any help Wallace?
Some of his friends have lost 3-4 teeth but he got his late (1st one at 11mo) and I figure it's not bad thing.

Wallace · 26/08/2005 18:21

So he isn't the only one then

bambi06 · 26/08/2005 18:25

my ds aged nearly 6 has lost two very close together in time

pippi123 · 26/08/2005 18:56

My DD is just 6 and has no second teeth - she was almost one before she got any teeth at all, so I agree with HV theory. I still have one milk tooth too, frenchgirl - i am 39 so they obviously last a lot longer than you'd think.

DD fed up as all school friends have some second teeth and now her friends in year below are also losing them. I tell her to be glad because she will have to brush them so much more carefully when they are second teeth!!

Chocol8 · 27/08/2005 10:35

Ds started losing teeth when he was 7, but he is 3 weeks away from being 8 and he still only has his 2 front teeth and bottom 2 teeth that aren't milk teeth.

His teeth look like their set in stone, not gum!

Never heard of adults still having milk teeth! Wow!

PeachyClair · 27/08/2005 10:46

DS is 5 and has a wobby one right now. I was really surprised- wasn't expecting it at all- but he is (and his father was) very precosious developmentally, if he takes after DH will be shaving at twelve. Not necessarily good, DH was being served in pubs at 14, whilst I got refused (but my five years younger sister was served!) at 24.

PeachyClair · 27/08/2005 10:47

Ah, just saw HV theory, DS had all teeth by one.

Twiglett · 27/08/2005 19:10

the whole thought of teeth falling out gives me the willies .. eek
