CELLULITIS - I THINK I NEED HELP!!

I have a big swollen area in my groin that is getting bigger and bigger. I went to the access clinic near where I work on Tues and they said it was an abscess, I was prescribed Flucloxacillin(?) spelling (?).
It got worse so I went back to docs this morning and she said it wasn't an abscess but it was cellulitis, she changed my antibiotics and said come back if it hasn't gone by monday.
I started to feel really off colour this afternoon, nauseous, unable to concentrate, generally cloudy and unwell and the swelling is getting more painful and I'm sure bigger. I went to drop in centre about 8ish who just said go back to docs in the morning, but I'm not sure what to say, I'm just worried as I feel so poorly..
has anyone had this or can anyone suggest anything?

if you are worried you should go to a and e tonight. my dh recently had "facial cellulitis" (basically red and swollen nose). took oral antibiotics but no improvement. took himself to hospital as he was feeling crap. they immediately admitted him and he was on i/v antibiotics for 2 1/2 days.... if you're not happy with advice do something to get help. good luck.

If you're feeling generally unwell despite antibiotics, and the swelling is growing then you need to see someone. If the Out of Hours service haven't treated you then I think going to A&E isn't inappropriate.

Do you have a fever? Make sure you take some painkillers and drink plenty and see someone this evening/tonight.

I had it on my foot about 4 years ago. I initially went to GP who prescribed the ABs but I also realised it was more serious when I felt pain in my groin and that it was essentially blood poisoning. Went to A&E where I was on IV ABs overnight. Then was on crutches for a while. It can be quite serious.
I would go to A&E if you can tonight esp if the pain is getting worse. Better than at 4am or something. Good luck .

Thanks for your reply CF, I was thinking maybe I should but thought the might just say the same as the walk in centre, I felt like I was over reacting, but it's so bloody painful
How did your husband feel when he went in?

I recently had cellulitis and was prescribed Flocloxacillin too. They gave me another antib when it didn't improve and told me to take it in conjunction with it. It took a while to improve. Can you ask if you can take both anti bs at the same time?

I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Sidge, I don't have a fever, but feel chilly one min then hot the next, no temperature though..
Thank you too Spotofcheerfulness, that sounds like my friend's husband, he had it on his leg and ended up in hospital, I've heard it can be quite serious, which is worrying me a little..

Stop posting here and be off to the hospital with you

You are Not Well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/08/2010 22:32

I think you ought to be seen tonight tbh. sorry.

controlfreakery · 05/08/2010 22:32

he first felt ill on saturday am. got heavy duty antibiotics sat afternoon. took himself to hospital 7 am sunday morning. face was v red and swollen and tender. he was a bit feverish, a bit "out of it", achey and generally felt crap. they were quite worried about him (as was I!)He's fine now but this can be a serious thing if left unchecked... if you're able to go to hospital and feel you should what's the worst that can happen? they reassure yu and send you home..

dizzytrout · 05/08/2010 22:33

She just replaced the flox with another one, as going to ask if I could have more tomorrow, thanks DW - it's mazing how many people have had it or know someone who has, I'd never heard of it before!

My DP recently had a boil that resulted in cellulitis around the affected area. I made him go to A&E to get it checked and he got the same antibiotics and advice to go back if he started to feel more unwell. It does sound from your symptoms that it would be a good idea to get yourself checked out to be on the safe side.

dizzytrout · 05/08/2010 22:35

OK, thanks for all your help everyone, I think I will go to A and E xxx

How did you get on?

dizzytrout · 08/08/2010 22:15

I went to A&E and was admitted, the registrar said it was an abscess so they got the surgeon to come and look, she said it looked like a abscess but would check the surrounding skin for cellulitis. They gave me IV antibiotics then operated on Friday morning.
I'm home now, still feel a bit offcolour, but muh better (apart from the hole in my leg) I'm glad I came online to ask for advice, or I probably wouldn't have gone :)

Oh I'm glad you are sorted, well done for going.

Have you got a cavity that needs packing?

TheDailyWail · 09/08/2010 17:59
