Am very shaky and n heavy painkillers but need some advice. Please excuse typing or waffling.

Have stairgate at the bottom of my home stairs for DC's. Was in a rush this afternoon to get out to visit a friend. Hopped over gate, ran upstairs, ran downstairs, stood on step ABOVE the step that the gate is on, threw one leg over, and slipped. Whole weight of body down on gate, from a foot and a half above it, with leg either side. Pain unbearable. Looked and blood pouring everywhere. Crawled upstairs to bathroom, looked in hand mirror. 2 inch gash in labia minora, almost all the way through, T shaped, almost cut in half lengthways and widthways. Called DH who was home in minutes. A and E brilliant and and very quick to see me. Area is MASSIVELY swollen and blue/bruised. Hosp sent me home without suturing, saying it was almost too swollen to do anythin with and it would hopefully stop bleeding soon. Cold compresses, gauze pads and codeine.

However. Have come home and the blood is still dripping out quite fast whenever I move.

Should I go back? I don't think it can heal properly without stitches and don't want to be disfigured dow there.

Feel so sick and shaken

Have you tried ringing for advice. If you can't get hold of anyone at A&E then call your out of hours GP service. It sounds like you could do with something to stem the bleed, but I am not a medical person.

You have my sympathy though, it sounds sore.

neverenoughMEtime · 19/07/2010 20:18

Ouch ouch ouch. Sounds hideous you poor poor thing. Have no advice im afraid just wanted to say i hope you heal quickly and the pain subsides very soon.

I would probably go back if i were you.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 19/07/2010 20:20

You need to go back, now if you can. It sounds like you are in shock.

I hope you are OK.

ReasonableDoubt · 19/07/2010 20:21

You poor, poor thing!

I would go back to A&E. Honestly, it sounds horrendous and there is no way you'll be able to sleep through this. You may well need a few stitches and you should be resting with proper pain relief and being monitored, perhaps? You must be in shock, too.

bigstripeytiger · 19/07/2010 20:22

Did A+E give you any advice about how they thought it would heal, or under what circumstances you should go back?

If the bleeding doesnt calm down then you could phone the A+E dept to discuss it with them, or just go back if you prefer.

hellymelly · 19/07/2010 20:29

OMG!!! that is blooming terrible, you poor poor woman.I agree with the above posters that as the bleeding is still quite rapid you really should be seen-they need to get a plastics person on to it I would think. Are you anywhere near a major teaching hospital? If so go there even if its further away.On the plus side,as you will know from threads on here, the vulva can take a lot of damage and still heal up really well,it has a good blood supply, which isn't helping with your bleeding, but will help with the healing.Do think maybe you need more pain relief too, morphine maybe.Hope you are on the mend soon.

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 19/07/2010 20:32

They should have told you to come back if you were worried about it...and you are, so go back.

It'll heal fine, but if it's still bleeding heavily, it might need a stitch or two to stem the bleeding.

neverenoughMEtime · 20/07/2010 09:57

How are you this morning OP? Hope you went back last night and they sorted you out.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 20/07/2010 10:01

You poor woman. I hope you went back and they are sorting it for you.

Mum72 · 20/07/2010 10:09

Oh your poor poor thing! I am sat here wincing for you. That sounds horrendous!

How are you today? I hope you are feeling less sore and less shaken up.

Komodia · 20/07/2010 10:13

How are you sleepycaz?

TBH the minute I read "stairgate" I nearly passed out! Sounds dreadful- hope you managed to get back to A & E and get it sorted out.

OMG I hope you are alright, this is a terrible thing to have happen.Big hugzs to you hope you are on the mend now and your injury has been sorted.

SleepyCaz · 20/07/2010 19:10

Hello all.

Thank you so much for all your well wishes and advice. I took more painkillers late last night and pretty much passed out until 8 this morning. Realised my wound was still bleeding so asked my Dad to take me up to local hospital, while a good friend had the DC's.

Cutting a long story short, I have had 3 stitches and been given a course of antibiotics just in case.

Very sore but feeling very glad it is sorted and isn't going to become infected or keep bleeding.

NO MORE 'hopping over' the stairgate for me.

DH has joked that he is going to cover them all in pipe lagging!

Flangepops? Intriguing!

Herbie Am in quite a lot of pain this morning, but think it's just because of first day after being stitched. Can't take my full dose of painkillers during the day either. They knock me right out and am on my own woth the DC's so have to be at least semi compus mentis!

Thanks all for the wishes and funnies

OMG, Sleepy, that's horrendous Glad you've got some decent pain killers. A 13 year old friend of mine was stood on a cheap plastic office chair in her bedroom, and she fell. The back snapped off and the pole part went through her clothes and perforated her womb before hitting her spine. Poor girl had to undergo several operations and missed months of school.

ApocalypseFlangePop · 21/07/2010 17:53

chickens reading that made my stomach flip.

The flangepop came about when another m netter gave me instructions on how to make a flange ice pack using a shaped frozen popsicle

Komodia · 21/07/2010 18:11

I felt so sick when I read that too - the poor poor girl.

Has it affected her in the long run? Bless her little heart x
