Safe seat

My constituency has always been conservative since its creation. However, there's been a very heavy labour presence round here.

I still think it will hold conservative but will be surprised and happy if it changes.

Has anyone else got a 'safe' conservative seat?

We are now Labour.

DiscoBeat · 05/07/2024 07:32

Our safe Conservative seat for the last 100 years has gone to LibDem. Very happy!

BusyCM · 05/07/2024 07:51

We stayed Conservative. Gutted.

MrsLeonFarrell · 05/07/2024 07:52

We went red, but they had changed the boundaries which helped. Still really happy.

TeamPolin · 05/07/2024 07:56

We stayed Tory. Our MP is a shite constituency MP so feeling fairly flat this morning.

Cornishclio · 05/07/2024 08:00

Our safe Conservative is now Labour. Only because Reform took a big chunk of votes though from the conservatives.

whiteroseredrose · 05/07/2024 08:04

Labour here too. First time in decades.

whiteroseredrose · 05/07/2024 08:05

Labour worked their socks off though. People around every day for the last week. Nothing from the Conservatives.

NamechangersRuleHere · 05/07/2024 08:08

Safe seat remained Tory here but with a massively reduced majority. I’m glad, my MP is a steady, principled man who does a lot locally.

zaffa · 05/07/2024 08:08

Gutted we have remained conservative. Our MP was in the cabinet, completely absent from local life, you wouldn't see him from one year to the next.
The Labour candidate was a local man, heavily involved in local politics and a real champion of the constituency- even though he sadly wasn't our MP. Even though our intention was to vote lib dem overall, the local Labour representative swayed us to a Labour vote.
Gutted he didn't win.

StampOnTheGround · 05/07/2024 08:11

Our safe Conservative seat (20,000 votes ahead last time) is now Labour!

UghFletcher · 05/07/2024 08:13

Ours remained conservative but there were only 92 votes in it between them and the Labour candidate so it was an amazingly close call

LadyDanburysHat · 05/07/2024 08:16

We have a safe Conservative seat, count not through yet, but I know there will be no change unfortunately.

Redlocks28 · 05/07/2024 08:19

My area has been blue since 1918 when it became a constituency and went Red today-couldn’t be happier.

tinydynamine · 05/07/2024 08:22

UK turnout approx. 60%, Labour's share of the vote 35%. Ergo: 65% of voters did not vote for the party which now has a massive majority. How can this be justified?

For the record: I am against FPTP regardless of which party it favours.

I tend to agree in principle but how does PR work in terms of MP seats?

tinydynamine · 05/07/2024 08:35

A Germam-style system would be preferable...you have two votes: one for a constituency candidate (FPTP) and one for a regional list (form of PR).

Same here.

Inthesnug · 05/07/2024 08:49

We were a very safe conservative seat. The tories kept their seat but there was only 125 votes on it!

Squareplate · 05/07/2024 08:54

Our safe seat, was held by the Tories by only 20 votes. Labour did improve their performance on last time, but the main difference was Reform 😪

MabelMaybe · 05/07/2024 08:58

Yes, we got moved into it because of the boundary changes. 5000 majority so loads less than it has been. Reform helped reduce the tory vote.

dutysuite · 05/07/2024 09:01

Blue safe seat for over 30 years went to Lib Dems. I’m not happy about it.

Huifen · 05/07/2024 15:04

Very blue safe seat went to Lib Dem's. I'm delighted about it!

Dreamingofgoldfinchlane · 05/07/2024 15:08

Very safe Tory seat. The Labour candidate campaigned hard but it didn't translate into votes. Completely the wrong candidate for the constituency. I think someone else may have had a real chance.
