General election 2024

Does anyone else quadruple-check their ballot paper?

Just been to the polling station to vote, and as always, I find myself checking the ballot paper 4 or 5 times after I've marked it to check that I've put the cross in the right place for who I want to vote for!

Does anyone else do this on a ridiculously simple form or is it just me?!

Me too... I literally trace my finger from the candidate's name to the right box 🤣 and then triple check!

Churchview · 04/07/2024 13:48

Yep. The lengths I go to satisfy myself that I've not accidentally voted Tory.

I’m a green voter.

We’re always at the bottom.

I think that means we’re the most important… (Semi quoting The Sound of Music.)

Fernleigh22 · 04/07/2024 13:56

I would check which one is at the bottom of the paper if you always tick the bottom box!!

They were top in ours! :)

MigGirl · 04/07/2024 13:59

Well I always at lest triple check it. Don't want to get my x in the wrong box by mistake.

frightenedmum1 · 04/07/2024 13:59

the candidates are listed alphabeticaly i think??

Noosnom · 04/07/2024 14:00

Yes. Anxiety voting here too.

IcouldbutIdontwantto · 04/07/2024 14:02

Yep, and then I still spend the walk home worrying that I put my cross in the wrong box...

sparkleowl · 04/07/2024 14:04

No, but I do make sure I’m putting my X in the right box.

No. But I did double check! 😆

Natsku · 04/07/2024 14:05

Well now I'm worried that my brother, who was my proxy, didn't double check!

LABOUR were at the bottom of ours... it's usually GREEN or UKIP.

REFORM were at the top! 😬

Labour was the bottom candidate on my form... wondering if there's any significance to the order on the form?

I did hesitate and check just as I went to put it in the box. Just once though.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 04/07/2024 14:28

I had no idea they were in a different order in each area. I wonder why.

I’m in the South West. I couldn’t tell you the rest of the order.

Nectarinesarenice · 04/07/2024 14:29

No - you clearly have polling OCD

mitogoshi · 04/07/2024 14:29

Alphabetical order! Labour were first on my list. Also have a council by election for added complication

crispychickenwings · 04/07/2024 14:29

Absolutely, I also check the symbol to see if I voted for the right person. E.g. the red rose for Labour

Boutonnière · 04/07/2024 14:32

After the last election I voted in ( London Mayor plus London Assembly -lots of candidates, different colour papers ) today’s single piece of white paper looked so simple that I found myself doubting that my single X was actually right !

Whether my choice in this depressing parade of inadequates is actually right is another matter.

SpeculatingRooks · 04/07/2024 14:33

I also always say " do I put it in here?" when I'm posting it in the box to the person behind the desk, I mean what an idiot, it's pretty obvious but can't stop myself saying it!

SnakesAndArrows · 04/07/2024 14:33

I said this to DH when we came out of the station and he had done the same.

First, find the candidate by name.

Then check he’s from the right party in case Reform are fielding his namesake.

Then pick up pencil and put a cross in that box.

Then check the cross is in the right box as steps 1 and 2.

You may be weird, but you’re not alone!
