Have you been exit polled?

I've never been.

I've just been looking it up, and it's only about 130-150 polling stations across the country, and they are chosen to be a good mix of demographics; it seems to be getting more accurate over the years. They use the same stations mostly, as it helps adjust the algorithms when they compare how they did to the results. I don't know where the stations they use are, though.

Apparently you get asked to fill in a replica ballot and to post it in a ballot box, to try to get the most accurate results possible. I guess they must be counting them all day though to be able to crunch the numbers and make an announcement right at 10!

I wonder if most people would take part when asked. I would, as I'm not rushed for time.

I guess there are likely also other less official exit polls as well, where various outlets can ask people if they want. I don't think I've been asked in this way, either.

What was so shocking about 2017?

Teresa May blowing up the Tories majority. Wasn't expected.

They do the exit poll at my polling station, asked both last time and this. They ask every 3rd person they said. My dd was asked at the one before that.

They're always at my polling station but I've never been stopped. Their methodology must mean that every 5 or so people are asked to take part.

We had someone wearing a reform badge outside our polling station asking how I’d voted. My answer of ‘not for you bunch of racists’ didn’t seem to go down very well…

i always thought that’s how they did exit polls, fascinated that it’s not. Also a bit cheesed off that, as I’m in deep Tory heartland, I’m never going to get exit polled!! We all know who is getting returned here (mind you for some reason it’s not been declared yet, so maybe it’s tighter that usual!)
