Where is Rishi?

I've heard a huge amount from Starmer, Davey and all the other leaders. Altogether too much from Farage. But since the D-Day debacle, Sunak has been pretty quiet. Which is very strange! Even today after the betting incident with his campaign lead (#awkward), he's very silent. I assume this is a Tory attempt at damage limitation. In fact I've heard more from Mordant and Shapps than I have Sunak. Maybe they've shut him in a fridge.

Looking for houses and a new job in LA?

Overtheatlantic · 20/06/2024 14:57

Exactly! Should we buy in Malibu or Brentwood?

Nectarinesarenice · 20/06/2024 14:58

😆

I think by now they've decided he cannot help and can only make things worse, so it's best he sit the rest of the election out.

Though he'll be on QT later with the rest of the leaders - if you're missing him Smile

I have my popcorn at the ready. I want to see how he gets his key messages across whilst being asked about his campaign managers betting habits. I almost feel sorry for the bloke. Almost. Nah scrap that.

Not just his Campaign Mgr. There's yet another Tory candidate being investigated for the same thing and this chart just shared shows a massive increase in Betfair bets the day before Sunak announced it - suggesting maybe there's a ton more to come yet 😯

Where is Rishi?
Shakeoffyourchains · 20/06/2024 18:16

I was just thinking the exact same. Tbf if I was a multi-milliomaire tech bro like Rishi I would have jacked in the day job a long time ago.

Triestre · 20/06/2024 19:13

Rishi doesn’t need any of this so good on him to quit being abused.

RobinStrike · 20/06/2024 19:13

Sunak has even pulled out of the biggest Conservative Party fundraiser tonight. I know he will be feeling tired and depressed, but it's his job as leader of the party to go and press the flesh to encourage donations. He's not only failing the country he's failing his party.

Don’t feel sorry for him. He pushed and pushed to lead. He couldn’t beat Truss. He spent all his time buttering up Tory MPs to beat Johnson and now he’s dropped them in it as he does not look like a great PM. He’s going to be an embarrassing footnote to a government that was already world beatingly incompetent. About the only power anyone has over such a rich man is to remind him of his limitations. So let’s remind him that being a PM of the UK is a serious job and requires someone better than him in it.

His party hasn't exactly helped him. What an absolute shower. I wouldn't blame him if he walked out of No. 10 tomorrow and told the police the keys were on the hall table.

Edited

He’s a politician. He fought for this job. He’s rubbish at it because he thinks it’s like being a CEO. Wrong. It’s called being a public servant. And the public don’t like him very much. He wants to avoid that humiliation because he doesn’t like the reminder.

They did! They stitched it up so that he did not face a member vote. Very good of them. In return he told none of the Cabinet about the election but did tell a number of aides who got down the bookies. Spivs is what they are, and him too

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/06/2024 19:26

Two weeks to go! I don't have very high hopes for Labour but the last 14 years have gone from bad to worse.

Gladanotthwrteamonesomething · 20/06/2024 19:45

Scaring sheep away in Devon?

chaosmaker · 21/06/2024 00:26

Watching him on iplayer, looks like he wants to cry.

RogueFemale · 21/06/2024 00:28

They're all fairly silent if you don't watch TV.

He's the party leader. It's his job to lead and keep all elements of the party together. I agree that's like trying to heard poisonous snakes, but he knew that when he took the job on. That's the problem with the Conservative party. All the ambition, none of the capability. All the arrogance to do it anyway.

Unfortunately I'm an uber geek and am following the election closely.

Exactly.

plus schools for the kids; all their extracurriculars; it’s a big move and needs some proper focus.

he’s got a whole Party machine to do all that tiresome election stuff. 😀. So a bit of delegation so he can prioritize (please note the z ) what’s really important.

DuncinToffee · 21/06/2024 12:02

He is targetting a couple of Tory safe seats but today he is in Wales for the launch of the Welsh Conservative manifesto.

Let's hope he won't be feeding any sheep Wink

boys3 · 21/06/2024 12:03

As an uber-geek @Justkeepswiimming you can maybe confirm (or correct) my understanding that Rishi ignored his election advisers when choosing an early July election and seemingly also completely blindsided virtually all his own MPs and what remains of his activist base.

andtheendwasgone · 21/06/2024 12:04

He's busy treating to figure out how to cancel his sky subscription

DuncinToffee · 21/06/2024 12:25

boys3 from what I read, Isaac Levido warned against a July GE whilst James Forsyth encouraged him to go for a July GE.

Maybe check out their betting history.

It remains a bizarre decision.

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/06/2024 12:33

They try not to let him near the public for fear of him making their already bad situation worse. Especially since rolling eye girl.
