Does anyone know on what DATE the 1901 census was taken?

Thought I'd found my grandad but it depends on what date teh census was done,

Yes, but as a starting point (given Tinker is only just starting and there's a good chance that her ancestor is a merchant seaman) looking at the page image for the transcription found page to make sure it says what the transcription says it does and that her ancestor isn't simply lurking on the page before or after is a good beginning. There's time for the cross-eyed stuff later (and I did the bulk of my research on microfiche/film when there were hardly any indexes available, so I know cross-eyed . Had I known that widespread Internet access and indexing were round the corner I'd probably have waited...

Oh no let donkeys do their own history sagas and we will endevour to help with yours - along the way it is all good fun and the great thing is they are dead and arn't going anywhere
