message from genes reunited - i appear on someones family tree....
ClareVoiant · 05/11/2008 19:27
but i haven't a clue who they are. (i have a name) but don't know them iyswim.
i tried to send them a message through genes reuntited, but it means i have to upgrade (cost of £10) for 6 months! am not interested in paying out any cash just now, so any ideas how i can find out who this person is?

In the majority of cases, the person who has contacted you has an ancestor with a similar name and dob to yours but isn't related at all. You can't find out unless you upgrade.

hmm... its definately me. i have an unusual maiden name and the town and year are correct. i appear on their tree, i was hoping there would be a way of looking them up without paying. (cheapskate!)

I'm a fully paid up member so could have a look for you if you like?
ClareVoiant · 06/11/2008 07:19
Oh would you, that'd be great :-) thank you, suprise.
If you emailed me, i could send you the email i was sent? My email is [email protected] I tried just searching the mans name but there were hundreds of them and they might not be local i guess.

You could always contact genesreunited themselves as people are not supposed to put names or details of living people on there without that person's permission. He clearly does not have your permission and you are quite clearly living

What worries me is when someone opens a tree for me, and they have got their date of birth on it. I mean, I wouldn't use it for fraudulent purposes, but not everyone's as nice as me!

Hi ClareVoiant,
I appear on someone else's tree and that tree is mine!! I went to look at it and it was definately my own, some kind of software related thing . I don't have my date of birth, just the year and place which is a bit more secure.
When I get messages from possible matches it just tells me their first name and neither of us have access to the trees unless we tick a specific box. Just because you have a match in your trees does not mean that they can see that tree or know anything about you. If you choose to allow them access to your tree after you have conversed with them, then you can do that.
Good luck
