Search criteria is as follows:
"John Smyth" + Place: Batley
It brings up an article in the Batley Reporter and Guardian on Saturday 1 February 1879 with the snippet "Anyone returning it to John Smyth, Suothill, will rewarded" - from which I infer that John Smyth of Soothill had lost something...
I suspect the transcription will be very short.
