Clerk Masters in lunacy?!

I enjoy using the property search function on FindMyPast to find details of who lived in my local area in days gone by, specifically the occupations.

I just came across this one from 1901 and wondered if anyone had come across this occupation before and what it means? I am thinking possibly a manager or administrator in an institution. Or maybe it means that the man was technically the head of the household but actually in an institution himself?
The area is around Finsbury Park, London. I am not in any way related to this person. I was actually looking at the property because it is an address where a subsequent resident murdered his lodger, in 1911, and I have just watched an episode of “Murder, Mystery and My Family” in which the murder, the trial and the house featured. The resident in 1901 is not connected to the 1911 murderer though.

That link is also fascinating for the info about the marvellously- named Robert Wilfred Skeffington Lutwidge, Lewis Carroll’s uncle. He came to a sad work-based end I see.
