Can a 6 week old baby look like the dad already?

Posting on behalf of a friend, he's been told a newborn baby is his (about 6 weeks old), he's met the baby and said that it does look exactly like him but wants to know if this is even possible or if his mind is playing tricks. He is waiting for a DNA test but just wanted some other advice while he's waiting! Thanks

My baby is a dead ringer of her dad and has been noticeably so since she was about 4 weeks old so yes, it's entirely possible

endofagain · 21/06/2023 17:00

Yes, absolutely in my experience.

Fighterofthenightman1 · 21/06/2023 17:00

Not sure if its a myth but newborns are supposed to look more like their dad's to help with bonding 🤷‍♀️

Both my babies were the image of their dad when they were born, both girl and boy

endofagain · 21/06/2023 17:01

Mine looked nothing like me, so I suppose it was good he looked like one of us.

spurs4ever · 21/06/2023 17:50

Mine was identical to his Dad from birth and still is now x

SirVixofVixHall · 21/06/2023 22:34

Yes of course ! I have seen babies very like one parent or the other. I have one who is so like me that people commented on it from when she was two or three weeks old.

Daisythecat15 · 21/06/2023 22:36

My cousin has a baby who looks exactly like him and has done since birth!

MinimalistMe · 21/06/2023 22:39

My boy is the spit of his Dad and has been since a few weeks old.

mrsfollowill · 21/06/2023 22:39

Yes- my son was the spit of DH at six weeks- MIL was delighted and dragged all the old baby photos out. To be fair DS is 21 now and the image of his dad- they are the same size in clothes, walk the same and from the corner of my eye if one nips upstairs when I'm in the kitchen I don't know which one it is. DS has inherited the shape of my eyes- that is it- the colour is identical to DH.

MeMeMeMeAndMoreMe · 21/06/2023 23:19

Both mine looked like their dad. My son was like his dad in the 4D scan they did. And he looked exactly like his dad's father at birth.

On the other hand, if I was him I'd be keeping an open mind until the results.

As a child/teen I bore quite a striking resemblance to an actress who was around at the time. I still look a bit like her but she’s not around so much so people don’t mention it. People used to literally stop me and say ‘you look a bit like x.’ Or they’d know me for a while then suddenly say ‘that’s who you remind me of!’

Point is, anyone can look like anyone. And they look more like them when you want them to. A child ‘looking like’ somebody has nothing to do with whether they are actually related to that person. I’ve even seen adoptive parents having people gush ‘oh she’s your double’ by well meaning people who don’t realise the child is adopted.

Janedoe82 · 21/06/2023 23:28

Yes. My first especially

AssertiveGertrude · 21/06/2023 23:29

Yes I think they can

My point was that despite looking so much like this actress (not a brag, it was not a beautiful glam actress 😂) we were not related in any way. It was just coincidence and similar colouring. If this person doubts the child is his for whatever reason, or doesn’t want to pay maintenance or whatever else, they need to wait for the DNA test.

Yes, mine came out the absolute spitting image of his father. No weeks were needed.

The midwife's in the room immediately commented on it. I think they were a bit shocked, even still squished up how much like his dad, DS looked like 🤣

He's 9 now and remains the image of his father. The only thing that denotes him as my son, are his blue eyes which are exactly the same colour as mine. But his eye shape and structure are his father's.

9 months I carried that kid for, 4 days of labour, 2.5hours of active pushing....for him to look like his father 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

This made me laugh, and sincere congratulations to you for quite obviously being drop dead gorgeous!

I said the same thing - I think especially at that age it's could be easy for a baby to look like any man without incredibly distinctive features. He's hoping it's not, but will obviously be stepping up if it is. As awful as it sounds, we're all just hoping it's a huge coincidence. Thank you!

All three of mine looked like their dad/his family from day one.

Ponderingwindow · 21/06/2023 23:37

The first thought the very first moment I saw my baby was how much she looked like her father. It was uncanny.

momtoboys · 21/06/2023 23:38

Absolutely. I have two sets of fraternal twins and one of each set came out looking like the spitting image of my DH and one looked just like me. It was very amusing!

Afraid not 😂 it wasn’t exactly like being compared to Mischa Barton or something, it was the kind of actress you were more like ‘oh.’ Although now I don’t mind!

I think it’s a hold tight and wait. Is there a doubt it may be his/chance of it being somebody else?

rosepetals156 · 22/06/2023 13:48

Crying 🤣

Well, he was under the impression that there was maybe two others around the same time but obviously doesn't know dates and specifics. He might even be wrong about that, it's a tricky situation. Not sure if she's just picked her favourite one/the one she believes has the most ££, or if she calculated things down to the day. He just thought it was odd he saw a striking resemblance of him when he was a baby but again, it can easily be done since there isn't huge variation in the world? He's very anxious about it all so just wanted to see some input from others.

But yeah, all he can do is wait unfortunately.

They can but it doesn't mean anything much. The mother could also have a 'type'.
