Can't see how to view content in archive
Bloodybridget · 28/05/2020 13:20
Wonder if anyone can help. I'm trying to view parish records in the Westminster City archives, and I'm just going round in circles. For example, on this page, if I click on System ID, it just takes me back to the list of records. Maybe it's not possible to actually view the records online, and you have to visit? That seems silly.
I could send feedback, but I thought someone here might have a suggestion! TIA.

Looking at that I think it is just the catalogue, then you need to order the documents you want and visit the archive to view them. It's a lot of work for them to scan and digitize all their archives so most local authorities don't have them online. You could try Freereg then search on Middlesex and Westminster. However this may not be a complete set, so if you can't find what you want, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
You could also try FamilySearch.

Thank you, @Saker. I searched again on Ancestry.com later and found some of the records I was looking for - I swear they weren't showing up previously! (By the way, I guess everyone engaged in family history research knows that public libraries are giving access to Ancestry to users at home, while they have to stay closed? I only found out the other day, from another thread here.)

Oh good. Sometimes I think stuff just seems to disappear! I suppose it's the tiniest thing in a search sometimes that affects it.
To comment on this thread you need to create a Mumsnet account.
