I ask this as me and my kids have quite the mix.
My dads parents are both from India, they are both Anglo Indian. So to see people faces when they realise my surname is very English but with Indian paternal grandparents always strikes a dna conversation.
Me - Anglo Indian, Irish, English, Italian, Scottish and German
My bf - Swiss, Dutch and English
My kids - Anglo Indian, Irish, English, Swiss, Dutch

My son always looks like he’s from the Mediterranean. He literally walks in the sun for 20minutes and it looks like he’s been on holiday for 2 weeks in Greece. Such a good tan.
Who else has a crazy mix 😊

I envy you! I've traced both lines of my family back to 1600s and they are all from Essex and Hertfordshire. Not a smattering of any kind of dissent or diversity. All blonde, blue eyed and will never tan.

bruffin · 24/02/2018 14:12

Got my dna back today. My Dm from Welsh borders and Df from cyprus.
Im 37% greek, 14% iberian 3% italian 7 % middle east and 36 % north europe. 0% english, irish celtic or welsh. But apparently the iberian could be from the welsh side.

Madmarchpear · 24/02/2018 14:15

Yes Iberian genes linked to Wales as these were the original celts that settled in Wales.

DullAndOld · 24/02/2018 14:16

I would love to have the DNA test done.
what I know of, I have Irish/English.
However my mother did arrive in London 'without much paperwork' so who knows...
Children have one English, ,one Irish and two Polish grandparents. So typical Londoners then...:)

bruffin · 24/02/2018 14:50

Dullandold
My parents met in london and im london born and bred😀

DullAndOld · 24/02/2018 14:53

ha !
apparently about 30 per cent of those who say they are 'Londoners born and bred for generations' have Huguenot blood!

PerfPower · 24/02/2018 14:59

My sister had it done and we're 92% Irish, 4%Greek/Italian, 4% Spanish. My Italian dh had it done and we were stunned. Turns out he's mainly Scandinavian, then Greek, Iberian, Middle East, Caucus and Jew. He looks Italian, has an Italian first and surname, and his parents are Italian - yet he is only 12% Italian.

BlueSkyBurningBright · 24/02/2018 15:03

My DNA test showed the % for the last 10 generations are 98% British, with the 2% suggested as Scandinavian.

Once we go back over 1000 years we are all linked. If we are European we are all related to one person who lived over 1000 years ago in Europe. Mathematically and genetically this has been proved.

Mathematically, we have 2 parents, 4 Grandparents, 8 Great-grandparents, 16 2 x Great-grandparents...... on and on. By the time we get to 10 x Great-grandparents there are over 4000 of them, at 20 x Great-grandparents there are over 4 million of them, more people than would have been alive at that time. Allowing for cousins and close relatives marrying, still there are a lot of people we are related to in history.

rizlett · 24/02/2018 15:08

Mine is:-
3% Finnish/Northwest Russian
2% East European
4% Italian/Greek
2% Irish
2% Spanish/Portugese
87% British

Pantah630 · 24/02/2018 15:19

Bruffin are you my DM? Not sure if Swansea villages count as Welsh borders or valleys. My maternal grandparents are Welsh and Cypriot, paternal are English. Must do a test to see the breakdown.

bruffin · 24/02/2018 15:38

Not Swansea but i did meet a welsh greek cypriot from Swansea once.
DGM was from Monmouth and DGF was from Abergavenny. GGF was from Clun in shropshire

bruffin · 24/02/2018 15:40

The man i met actually had the same name as my grandad but he was living in London

whiteroseredrose · 25/02/2018 22:34

50% Jewish diaspora and 50% British. No surprises there!

Pantah630 · 26/02/2018 10:04

My GM was from just outside Swansea, met my GF during the war in London. They brought their children up in Dorset, as did his DB and one of his DS, other DSs stayed around London area apart from one that stayed in Cyprus.

Pantah630 · 26/02/2018 10:04

That's my GF brothers and sisters, not mine :)

Minniemountain · 02/03/2018 13:36

My DM- adopted but we know her DF was English and her DM English with a French Swiss surname.
My DF- his DF 3/4 Welsh, 1/4 English, born in Argentina and his DM 1/4 Indian, 1/4 Portuguese, 1/2 Irish born in India.

My DH's family are largely from the Fens and none outside England that we know of.

LinoleumBlownapart · 02/03/2018 22:28

Me - English, Scotish, German and Swedish.
DH is Brazilian, people think he's middle eastern but one of our sons is often asked if he's part Japanese. Most certainly has native American, North African, Portuguese and Spanish in his DNA. I would love to get him and the kids DNA tested.

cheesydoesit · 22/03/2018 10:27

I would love to do this. What company would you recommend? Are they reliable?

Ginorchoc · 22/03/2018 10:48

Following as I’m thinking of buying a kit for one of daughters birthday presents.

DuggeeHugs · 10/04/2018 01:07

I've just had my Ancestry DNA results - the kit was an unexpected birthday gift and I'll admit to being a bit uncertain about the idea. I'd recommend Ancestry; partly because you retain ownership of your DNA sample and partly because the app, etc., are easy to use.

Since getting the results I've become obsessed with answering some puzzles we've always wondered about and am now trying to piece together relationships from the 1500s Smile

8SaltandVinegar · 10/04/2018 01:14

I've seen the ads for these, but quite sceptical. How does an Irish persons blood differ from an English persons blood? Confused

user1497863568 · 10/04/2018 01:46

I had it done. 98% European, 65% Irish and 15 % Scots with rest a mix of West and Eastern Europe. Only 2% Scandinavian which fits in with way I look. Growing up, everyone thought I was Jewish (have a little bit) but actually the Irish are natively dark... I think most English people (and Irish who look like them) would show a greater percentage of West European and Scandinavian.

howrudeforme · 10/04/2018 02:15

Vicks - did you do an ancestry test?

I’m enlglish and Indian (question either French or Spanish ancestry on English side).

Ds has Italian father. Ds was keen to do test as he felt his Indian side could stretch to Iran etc. He’s an odd looking child. Med skin tone bit south East Asian eye shape with almost black eyes.

I am wholly unintereted but there was an ancestry dna sale and ds keen - also my father keen and i thought I’d get my ancestry between them!

Thing is they do say they base connections on samples they have and don’t have much non European samples to go with as it’s not currently marketed globally.

So ds gets his results - we’ll he’s Italian, uk and Indian. So no great info. What was interesting that is expected 50 % Italian but it was much less, more Asian etc. What was interesting was they pinned his Italian genes to almost exact spot where ex h born and these was discovered via Italian Americans in nyc.

My father had test and is it showed up on ds profile and had them down as closest match but as possible first cousins lol.
