How to find family?

Hi, this is totally new to me, Dad was born in Leicester/brought up in Middlesbrough, I hardly know anything about his side of the family, his parents are both deceased and he's in his 70's now. Would like to learn more about his side, but I'm worried about upsetting anyone, as he has 2 daughters who I have never met/not in touch with him, so wary to post on sites. WWYD?

Is it living family you are trying to find? ie the 2 daughters or your Dads ancestral line ie details of his parents/grandparents etc? Are you able to talk with your Dad about this? You can research your fathers family history backwards without having to post anything on line but not sure if this is what you mean?
