Best cdROM to buy for creating a family tree?

Hi

I am on a hunt for a cdROM family tree doo dah - for a family member who wants to create a family tree record, independent of ancestory/findmypast etc. Partly because he wants to keep it entirely private (toxic family) and partly because he doesnt want to be tied to any particular site.

There are loads available - where to start? which to buy?

I sort of know what I am doing with family history myself but have only ever used paper to record my research.

All reccomendations welcome :)

We use Family Historian. It's easy to build a tree and fairly intuitive to use at a basic level. Mind you, I only use about 90% of what it can do!

It is also aimed primarily at the UK market whereas most of the others are USA based.

And there's a good support site run by users.

Best of all you can try it free for 30 days - download the trial from the site. It's the full version, too, not a restricted trial.
