Is there an American equivalent to Scotlands People/Free BMD?

I have relatives in my family tree who moved to America in the early 1900s. I know what happened to most of them but there is one who seem to have disappeared.

I have info on him arriving in the USA in 1904 and he seems to have worked on ships as crew as I have lots of info from Ancestry of him on the ships lists but there is nothing after 1924.

At the moment I'm presuming that he died, hopefully I will be proven wrong, but I'd like to know if there is anywhere online for America which has births, deaths and marriages like we have Scotlands people or Free BMD.

anyone know?

Many Americans use sites like www.ancestry.com for things like this, which would be easily accessible to you. Failing that, direct use of libraries and town hall records is how it's done. I'm sure ancestry.com can at least get you started. I'm from the states, and if I can help you in some way, please let me know.
