which I've just bought and is supposed to come with 6 months free Premium Membership.

I already have essentials membership paying at £10 a month, and because I've just paid out for the coming month, they won't let me upgrade. Even if I'm happy for the two memberships to overlap.

So having just bought the sodding package, I can't get the premium records for another month.

Hmm Angry

That is ridiculous. But I'm intrigued...what services do you get with as FTM subscription and a premium subscription?

Have you rung them to complain?

I rang them this morning to say I've just bought the package and how do I get the 6 months premium membership.

That's when they said there can't be two memberships running concurrently, and cos I've just paid the February installment, it has to wait until the end of the month.

I think I might ring back to say "Oi, sort it out" (or words to that effect)

Premium subscription allows to you view all kinds of records on Ancestry beyond the free ones. Free ones are census and BMD really.

FTM is just a piece of software which lets you store information on your own computer. You still need an online database to be able to search, such as Ancestry, but you could also use it with Find My Past I guess, or any of the others, so you're not tied to a subscription on one site.

or at least that's the theory! I think.

I see what you mean now (I think!). I have world ancestry and various other subscriptions (I actually do FH research professionally) but I use Family Historian as my database so I was just wondering whether FTM offered something new.

I'm pretty sure they could sort that out for you if they wanted. I have always found ancestry quite helpful, but if you have to go through FTM it might be different I suppose.
