Windows 7 Starter thing on netbooks - has anyone managed to change their background on it?

Officially, you're not able to. But, searching online shows that there are progammes which get round this. Bit wary of downloading some of these things though. Has anyone done so?

It's not easy....

The file is locked down with permissions that make it tricky for someone to be able to do anything with it.

Then if you can replace the image file one of the core Windows libraries has hard coded within it a "fingerprint" of the image and if the image doesn't match that fingerprint it will cause trouble.

So you need to hack the permissions and then hack a core piece of Windows code.

There are programs out there, as you've found, to help you out with this but I'm not sure if any of them are any good or trustworthy.

Ah, thanks for the response. Just don't want to mess up the machine but it's maddening that I can't change it. Petty,I know, but maddening.
