Just got a new PC...Windows 7 has no email with it, you used to get Outlook express.

So DH ordered a copy of MS Office and found it does not have Outlook email on it either. You have to pay a fortune to get Outlook at home now by buying the "business version" at 5 times the price.

Does Microsoft not want home users of Outlook?

So, anyone know a good free email package!

Outlook Express is dead, long live Windows Live Mail. Well that's it's replacement anyhow.

I was under the impression that it came with Windows but maybe it doesn't, you can certainly download it for free from here:
explore.live.com/windows-live-mail

You don't want to get Outlook, it's business level application that does a lot of things you don't need and the things that you do need it does quite complexity.

There are other email clients out there that are free and other people might come along and recommend them...

It does come with mail (or at least the version of Windows 7 I just installed for my mother did). But Outlook Express was rebadged as "Windows Mail" in Vista and has now been further rebadged as "Windows Live Mail".

It should be pre-installed on the PC.

thunderbird - very good free email client - I much prefer it to outlook (express or otherwise !).

Thanks...embarassingly I do corporate PCs and only know Outlook, so my home PC knowledge is rubbish (spend all day dishing out PCs but not interested in them really).

DH has found Windows livemail as a free download...the PC did not come with it!!!!

We have looked at Thunderbird...it wants us to log into google mail and goes loopy if we suggest our email account is not google mail. Strange...DH is looking into it by swearing a lot.

Oh no...he's setting up his webcam instead.

The joys of a new PC!

with thunderbird you can set it to pick up mail from any service provider - definitely not confined to google mail (I use it to pickup mail from about 4 different servers).
