Moving files from one laptop to another - HELP!!

Hope someone can help me out!

Our old laptop has given up the ghost after 4yrs so we bought a new one and I was planning on using a memory stick to transfer my iTunes library onto the new laptop. Unfortunately, the old laptop won't hold charge long enough to allow me to put all the files onto the memory stick. I can't plug it into the mains as there seems to be a loose connection in the charger cable, and it only powers the laptop after I wiggle the wire around - very technical!!

Is there some way to connect the two laptops together to allow the transfer of files this way? Could I use a USB cable to connect them?

Thanks!!

Not without power to the old laptop. Only thing you can do is take the hard disk out and put it in an enclosure like this (unless it was a high spec machine 4 years ago with a SATA hard drive which will need one like this. Don't panic, this is much easier than it sounds (unless it is a Sony or Mac).

Thanks for the links, MrA, excellent prices

Thanks for getting back to me mranchovy - I knew there wasn't going to be a quick way to do things!! It's not a Sony or a Mac so fingers crossed I'll manage. And what you linked to seems really cheap too - which sorts out my other worry!
