Can anyone recommend a good camera?

I have a Nikon D40 which takes superb photos but it a bit bulky for taking on a day trip. I would like a compact camera that takes really good photos, has a decent size screen, video would be good but not essential. A good all-rounder basically.

Any recommedations?

Try the Pentax Optio series, both my dd & I have one, different models, & find they take really good pictures.

You could get a nikon compact - the name of them slips my memeory right now.

I have a D60 and my 'handbag camera' is a canon powershot.

Panasonic Lumix range has Leica lenses are are consistently good across all the models, Ricoh do a few good ones.

I have a Panasonic Lumix TZ3 (it's a few years old) it has a 10x optical zoom plus 20x digital zoom, the aforementioned lense, records video with sound and is sturdy, it's a metal body not the plastic that many cameras are.

Thank, will have a look on Amazon at those ones. Sorry, I should have mentioned that our price limit will be about €150 to €200 as it is a second "snapshot" camera.

We have a Panasonic Lumix too. It is amazingly good for the money.

Have just realised why the Panasonic looks so familiar, we have an earlier version. It works until I put a SD card in then won't take the photo. I suspect that the DC have something to do with that though.
