We have downloaded a fake virus scan thing and accidentally half uninstalled macafee in the process. What's more, 3 icons have appeared on the desk top - they are links to porn sites. They won't uninstall! the virus scan thing is called Defense Center, and I can't uninstall that either as it doesnt show up on the list of programs when I go to uninstall programs.

does any one at all have any idea what to do now?
TIA!!

AFAIK you can right click on shortcuts on your desktop and delete them/send to recycle bin. Not sure if that cures it though.

Getting rid of Defense Center is complex; below are links to some instructions. As for the porn links, just deleting them may be enough, but you do need to get McAfee or something re-installed and working, plus maybe use CCleaner or the like to clean up.

Trend Micro have a good online virus check if you suspect something has got past your defences (3rd link below).

Another good piece of software to clean up PCs and look for "bad" software is AdAware, and there's a free version which is plenty good enough.
