So, why is my Mac now not remembering any user names and passwords?

My Mac has always (until this week) remembered the user names and passwords, when I allow it, for my regular log ons including MN.

In the last couple of days, I have been forced to re-enter these details every single time I log on to say, MN or my share dealing site... I have not consciously told the Mac I don't want it to remember these, not knowingly changed any settings or deleted the History.

It was really useful to have these saved for the sites I use several times a day!!!

Help? Please?

Once you've entered them again does it then remember them for the next time you go to the site?

What sort of Mac have you got? If it's one you leave on all the time, such as an iMac, then it's possible that an automated clean up task has kicked off and scrubbed out your stored passwords.

You may have a locked keychain. Go to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access (double-click it) and have a look at the status of your "login" keychain- the padlock icon will tell you. Unlock it, and while you're at it you can see if passwords for the relevant sites like MN are actually stored in there (open one of the keychain items and then click on "show password").

To be able to do this you need to know your Mac OS X login password- the one you set up when you got the computer- but you don't need to know any of the other passwords.

No, it does not then remember them the next time around. It is constantly scrubbing them after every use...

Key chain unlocked and some of my sites are showing as names saved, others not... Hmm thanks for the tips, at least I feel now like I am closing in the culprit!

Will report back if anything useful (though, I am seriously un-techy so not holding my breath!)

And now, for example I have to reenter my nickname and password. AGAIN.

Just as an aside, I assume you're all using Safari, so wondered if the same 'forget info' situation also affects Opera or Firefox ?
