iPod / iTunes. How do we have 2 separate iPods using the same laptop?

I have been using iTunes for a while now and DP has purchased an iPod and needs to upload his CD's.

We have very different tastes and would prefer to use completely separate files/accounts.

How do I do this? Can I do this?

Thank you

Best way (only way, really) is to have 2 separate user accounts on the computer- he logs in as himself and does his stuff, you log in as you and do yours. Piece de gateau.

I managed to do this on one account but I typed it into google and some cleaver person had it as a step by step guide.

An "easier" way would be to set both iPods to manually manage their music.

There are some instructions on it here:
support.apple.com/kb/ht1535

That will stop your iPods mirroring what is in your iTunes library. It also means that you can delete music from your iTunes libary without it being deleted from your iPod, which is a really useful thing to do if you've got lots of music and limited disk space.

So the process becomes...

  1. Copy a CD into iTunes
  2. Plug in the iPod and drag the new album(s) over into it.
  3. Unplug the iPod
  4. Delete the CD from iTunes
