I am not technical at all so please be gentle!

On some websites (mumsnet being one of them) when you connect to them in internet explorer the little icon on the tab/address bar is not the normal one but one from a site visited ages ago - alweya the same one though. I have turned computer off etc but it keeps happening.

One of the sites is the bbc one (only the home page - the rest have the normal bbc icon when you go into them) which also does not remember my local settings.

I hope this makes sense - if it does can someone tell me what I have broken and how I fix it?

Thank you

Not sure what's happened there and this might not help, but try deleting temporary internet files.

To do this go to Control Panel and open 'Internet Options'

On the general tab in the middle you should see a button to do that.

If it offers a choice (some versions of internet explorer are different) you just want to delete the 'temporary internet files' and not saved password or form data.

This is worth doing now and then anyway.

Just so you know what you are deleting. Those files are bits and pieces of all the sites you ever visited. It keeps them so that when you return to a site it can reuse bits to save it downloading them again. It speeds things up.

Unfortunately it also gets muddled sometimes so clearing them out is like a spring cleaning.

The "icons" are called "favicons" (favourite-icons). It is in no way a problem if the wrong favicons are displayed, your computer and internet will function perfectly well regardless.
