the speaker on my iphone seems to have broken

I'm getting sound through the headphones fine, but am not hearing ring tone or message alerts, alhtough when I go to settings, they're both turned on (and make a sound)

any ideas?

I've tried the usual turn it off and turn it on again method of fixing things but that hasn't worked - it's synced properly and the OS is updated

it's only 6 months old

right, so mute button isnt on, and speaker can work when you try to change the ringtones..

next obvious one is the volume. turn it up full. (side buttons)

Is it just the ring &message alerts you don't hear? Can you hear your music through the speaker? Or through a dock speaker if you have one?
