I am hoping someone here can explain in laymans terms what I am doing wrong! I have googled but it just confuses me even more....

I use Windows Vista Basic on a toshiba laptop. I have office installed yet everytime I send something to someone eg excel spreadsheet they can't open it.

Equally, when I tried to open something yesterday, it was all gobbledegook!

Help please!!

What Office have you got? Is it Office 2007?

Do your files end in .xlsx or .docx?

If so then what probably happening is that you have a more up-to-date copy of Office than your friends and need to save your files as an Office 2003 compatible document so that the files end in .xls or .doc.

I have no idea about the gobbledegook file - what were you trying to open?
