I want need an iphone4 , but already have a 3G version with a sim-only contract with O2 (no tie-in period, just 30 days' notice)

what do people do with their old phones when they upgrade? is there a market for 2nd hand ones and if so, how much could I recoup?

Definitely, and probably quite a bit!

looks like it

(didn't look properly, but looks like there are lots on there. Trouble is the market is bound to be a bit flooded at the moment..

There was mention of some scheme (for customers of O2 with an iPhone) to allow them to upgrade to the latest model. It suggested the customer might get a refund of maybe 240 pounds for a 16 GB model, but then would have a fee to pay for the new model (and start a fresh 18 or 24 month contract).

There would likely be a fee per month of the remaining contract to pay, and there was a hint that the amount paid out by O2 could taper down over time, so once they have a load of handsets they would offer a smaller refund amount.

It also needed the customer to have an iPhone (so existing O2 customers with other phones would probably not get a new iPhone at a similar price, sorry folks!)
