Any recommendations? I work for a phone company and get to choose a new phone each year. These are on the list. They all look very flashy! Apparently I am supposed to flash mine about to people so that they all want one . I don't of course as that would be sad. But as it's a big perk of my job, I want to pick the best one..... I want an iPhone really of course, but company doesn't support them.... bah humbug.

Anyone? before I go to bed? You've all got iPhones haven't you?

I don't have either, but don't have an iphone either!

I considered the Sony X10 recently, but went for the htc desire instead.

desire is fab, if thatis an option

Portofino · 11/05/2010 22:49

I think there was a HTC Magic on the list. One website listed the desire as the the no.1 phone...

Suggest you search whole of MN in last 3 weeks for N97 and separately for Satio as there have been discussions outside of Geeky Stuff.

Unfortunately I have no budget experience regarding these nice flashy models to offer any opinions at this point.

Thanks NG - I will have a look. They ARE horrendously expensive aren't they! Mindyou they want 650 euros for an iPhone here so I am glad of my annual freebie!

Nexus one, the new Google phone by HTC. Blooming Fab. Hope its on your list. Its also an android like the x10 but much better, equal to an iPhone. On mine now, love it!

NetworkGuy · 12/05/2010 10:15

I guess 650 Euro is with no lock in to a network. AFAIK, Tesco has them for 300+ pounds plus a contract length of 18 or 24 months.

Not sure what my sister is paying (on Vodafone, the network she has used for 10+ years) but hope they gave her some big discount as a loyal customer (perhaps more loyal because of a usable signal in her hilly part of the country than because of any major love of Vodafone).

No Nexus's yet unfortunately. Mainly toying between the X6 and N97 mini at the mo. But then I change my mind again....

I had a nokia x6 for a couple of days and whilst there was nothing wrong with it, I just didn't love it. I returned it and I'm waiting for an iphone now. sorry!

the desire is the only htc phone I've ahd, so can't compare.

I saw the review which listed desire as no. 1 phone too, was prob what swayed me in the nd - I couldn' find a decent, (impartial) reviewof the X10...

Previous phone was a Sony C905, which was an absolutely fabulous camera, but not great a sa phone. lots I disliked about the phone features, hence why I was tempted away forkm Sony this time.

I was still torn because the Sony X10 camera undoubtedly better than the htc.

htc camera is ok - a bit too easy tojostle and get a fuzzy picture I am finding, but will prob be ok in the long run. I understand this is a big stepup from previoushtc cameras, so if camera isimportant to you, I'd go for the SOny -= hard otbeat as a camera phone, I'd warrant.

I played with the Sonyin the shop. Other htings that put me off:

size: a bit bigger than the desire, although less wide, but I thought would irritate ina pocket.

shape: very square corners - also thought would irritatein a pocket.

was a good screen resolutoin though, and overall a shame I couldn't find a decent review of it before I needed to upgrade, otherwise I think it would've been a stronger contender.

dh is at my phone, so will prob sign up to a smart phonedeal soon too - if so he will get the X10 and we can swap around as necessary (have heard that the batterylife on the X10 not great, but tbh I'm not findingit brilliant on the htc either!)

NetworkGuy · 12/05/2010 14:35

Pretty sure there were comments of problems with the N97 and N98 (?) (unreliable) so perhaps worth talking to colleagues of yours who may have the X10 or N97 mini to see if they are happy, cost there's nothing worse than a phone that is 'fussy' as it does nothing to assist in the promotion of same (which is why your firm is willing to offer them).

Being nosy, what will the new one replace? and will you ebay the old one?

Portofino · 12/05/2010 14:48

I currently have a Nokia E71. It is a nice phone - useful for work as it syncs with my Outlook. Does email, web surfing (though awkwardly). Techically I can access Facebook and Twitter but it is really clunky.

The Nokia E72 is also on my list which looks like a updated version of same. But I am veering towards to the sexy smartphones. Not sure if I will sell the old one, or hang on to it for a while. At work I only have a mobile number so it is nice to have a back up one in case of loss/breakage.

Love the sony e vivaz.. fantastic smart phone and compact for all that it does.. the satio is their lead phone so I'd imagine they're fab! Also Sony have fantastic battery life!

Portofino · 12/05/2010 14:56

Vivaz is on list....

I have the N97 mini, have had Nokias since forever but really don't get on with this one. Screen freezes at least once a day so I have to turn it off and on again. Web is poor, sat nav and camera good. Very jealous of DH's iphone as no decent apps for N97.
