Internet history

I want better control over my Internet history. It seems to delete itself every so often and I want that to stop. Also want to know if something is deleted from the actual 'history' bit, is it gone forever or can I still see what was viewed somehow?

What Operating System (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X etc.) and which Browser(Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari etc.) are you using?

Internet explorer, it's just windows I think.

If you go into Internet Options (probably in Tools at the top of the page) you'll see a section labelled History and a setting for how many days to keep your pages in the history. Mine is set at 20 days so that is probably the default. It seems to be able to go up to 99.
