help: web hosts for WordPress

I'd like to start a blog on WordPress, but I don't know which web host to choose.

The ones WordPress suggests are US based. Is it necessary to choose one from the UK?
I know 123-reg. any good?

Also, how many applications do you need for a not very complicated WordPress blog?

Thanks.

WordPress will host it for free - wordpress.com/. It will walk you through setting it up.

Depends on the domain name as to which is best. For .co.uk then 123-reg would be fine. For .com or other names, you may save half the money a UK firm may charge if you used a USA firm.

Ok - I use icdsoft for hosting - they will do .com registrations. For .co.uk domains, I register the domain with 123-reg then point nameservers to icdsoft (easy peasy, not complicated).

Their documentation (suresupport) will walk you through installation.
