Noisy IMac fan: please help

Hello techie people,

My IMac fan is so loud, it sounds like a Hoover. I've tried restarting it, and also leaving it on overnight (to cool down), but nothing has worked. The temperature in the room where it lives is cool. I need to work on my IMac, but the noise is driving me crazy. Any thoughts, anyone?

TIA

Download and install this widget:
www.islayer.com/apps/istatpro/

It will give you all sorts of information on fan speed and temperature readings that will help work out what's going on here.

Oh BadgersPaws, thank you

I'll try it right now.

Have installed it and it's telling me the temperature of my hard drive is 26Ëš. This seems excessive: does anyone know if it is, and if so, what I should do? The fan noise is so loud I can't work: help

Whoops, something weird happened there with my shortcuts; I meant to say the temperature of my hard drive is 26 degrees

26 Celsius is not too hot at all to be honest, is that the hottest component?

Is it showing the cooling fans as being on?

My neighbour cleaned the fan of ours with a hairdryer to get rid of any stoor and oosie bits. He's a serious techie...keys on belt type..

Oh and one thing that's worth trying is to actually unplug the iMac (not just turn if off) and leave it for a few minutes. That helps various bits and bobs within it to reset.

Thank you both.

Your tip was the winner BadgersPaws; have a jammy dodger on me

Just stick the hoover in front of the fan vents it's probably full of carpet, infact you might want to open it up and give it a good brush.

Bering's in the fan might be warn out tho.
